Take a scenic drive up the East Cape. The paved highway ends about 5 miles north. From there on, the road is dirt, the terrain is rugged, and the scenery is unreal. You can go for hours or take a short drive. There are some important things to consider if you add the East Cape Highway to your itinerary, as you will be heading into a very remote area. Plan ahead.
There are no gas stations or markets along this stretch of road between San Jose del Cabo and Los Barilles, so ensure you have plenty of gas and drinking water before heading out.

Cell service is almost non-existent, so make any important calls, texts or emails before leaving the house.
The “highway” is an ungraded, bumpy dirt road. Consider renting a higher clearance vehicle.

If you are visiting in the Winter months, December - March, be sure to add a whale watching excursion to your itinerary. A few go out of the nearby Puerto Los Cabos Marina. Salty Cabo Excursions or East Cape Explorers offer private or group tours. You will want to book in advance as they will sell out during peak season. Many other whale-watching operations also depart from the Cabo San Lucas Marina, Cabo Pulmo and La Paz
There are many excellent surf spots nearby on the East Cape. It's just a 10-minute drive to Shipwreck, 15 minutes to La Fortuna, 20 minutes to Nine Palms, or head 30-40 minutes into San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas to surf Zippers, The Rock, or Monuments, to name a few.
La Fortuna Surf Shop is currently the only surf shop on the East Cape and is the closest to Casa Moonshine. They offer board rentals, lessons, and supplies.
